About Rory Gleeson
Rory Gleeson is an Assistant Professor in English at Northeastern University London.
He is a writer and teacher with specialisms in creative writing and writing for publication and production, adaptation, screenwriting, non-fiction and contemporary practice, and writing for television.
He has a BA in Psychology from Trinity College, Dublin, MA degrees in Creative Writing Fiction from The University of Manchester and The University of East Anglia and an Mst in Creative Writing from Oxford University with a focus on scriptwriting. He was the Burgess Writing Fellow for Fiction at The University of Manchester in 2019.
His novel Rockadoon Shore was published with John Murray Press in 2017 and was a Dubray Recommends and Easons Book Club Book of the Month. His short film Psychic premiered at the Galway Film Fleadh in 2018 and his play Blood in the Dirt debuted at The New Theatre in 2019. He received a Literature Bursary from Arts Council Ireland in 2020. In 2021 his short story The Body Audit was shortlisted for the BBC National Short Story Award. His writing has featured recently in The Dublin Review, The Tangerine, The Business Post, RTÉ Radio 1, and Granta.

Rory Gleeson's Research
Rory Gleeson interests cover contemporary writing practises across print and screen, including travel writing, creative non-fiction and TV writing. He has a particular focus on the adaptation of 20th and 21st century literature to screen, and creative adaptation across mediums. His work for publication is ongoing, with current research into Covid impacts in critical care settings, with an emphasis on moral injury and abandonment in healthcare workers.

Rory Gleeson's Teaching
His teaching specialisms include creative writing for publication and production; academic writing, screenwriting and contemporary Practice; writing for television.
He has taught on the First Year Writing Studio and is designing Fiction and Screenwriting postgraduate courses in the Creative Writing Department.
He was previously a Writing Mentor/Dissertation Supervisor at City University London, and a Story Editor at Torino Film Lab. He was the Burgess Writing Fellow at The University of Manchester.
