Senior Management Team at NCH

The Senior Management Team (SMT) ensures there is effective leadership, management and coordination of all academic administrative services, marketing, recruitment and support activities undertaken by the College. SMT is responsible for developing detailed operational plans and supporting strategies to deliver the NCH Strategic Plan.

Chief Executive Officer

Rob’s early career was as a solicitor with Clifford Chance in London and Singapore. He spent four years in corporate finance with 3i and three years with Bain & Company as a consultant. More recently, he has spent eight years as a director and managing director of major educational publishing businesses. He has a degree in history from Oxford University and an MBA from the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania.

Assistant Vice President for Recruitment & Marketing for the Global Campuses

Martin is responsible for the recruitment and marketing function across much of Northeastern University’s campus network, including: Charlotte, London (NCH), San Francisco, Seattle, Silicon Valley, Toronto and Vancouver. Martin gained extensive experience of student recruitment at the University of Law, including the development of the international recruitment department and the agent network . Before this, he was a lecturer in law at the College of Law, the University of Kent and the University of Reading. He was previously a solicitor in the City with Denton Wilde Sapte, specialising in EU and competition law. He holds LLB and LLM degrees.

Sheena Van der Merwe

Director of Resourcing & Operations

Sheena is responsible for drafting and implementing HR policies and procedures which establish a framework and set standards. She is the first point of contact for staff recruitment and staff welfare. She works closely with management and line managers on staff performance, and other contractual matters. She also has oversight of operations/facilities.

Sheena is working towards gaining her Level 7 CIPD qualification in Human Resource Management.

Director of Finance

Vanessa specialises in finance related functions and is a qualified Management Accountant. For the last 10 years, she has held various Financial Controller positions. The industries she has worked at have varied from Lift Installation, to mobile technology, print distribution, but most notably Further and Higher Education.

Vanessa was the College’s Financial Controller from 2017 until taking on her new role in early 2021, where she oversees all Finance and Payroll functions.

With a number of Financial Controller roles, her career has seen her navigate through various industries from lift installation to print distribution but, most notably, Further and Higher Education.

Elizabeth O'Connell MA (Edinburgh)

Director of Marketing, Admissions, Recruitment & Visas (MARV)

Elizabeth is responsible for the marketing, admissions, student recruitment and visa compliance functions for London (NCH).

Elizabeth’s career began with British Airways, based in New York, where she had a number of marketing and sales roles, culminating in her leading the North American consumer marketing team and frequent flyer programme. On returning to London. Elizabeth took on managing the airline’s sponsorships including the London 2012 Olympic bid and the British & Irish Lions New Zealand tour.

Elizabeth’s next international marketing and management roles was Head of Sponsorships for Diageo and Guinness in Africa, where she managed the brands sponsorships of the Premier League and African Cup of Nations.

Elizabeth earned her MA in Spanish at the University of Edinburgh.

Registrar, Director Academic Services

Bex has oversight and leadership of all academic services, including Registry, Quality, Student Support and Development, and Global Experience. She is responsible for enhancement initiatives across all aspects of the student journey; collaborating with students, faculty and professional staff at a strategic and operational level. She is the key connector between NCH at Northeastern and Northeastern University, ensuring operational effectiveness and efficiency for the planning and delivery of student mobility programmes and the integration of the two providers. She is also responsible for ensuring compliance with the OfS, HESA, QAA, OIA and any other external stakeholder, while collaborating with the Regulatory Affairs team in Northeastern. She is a member of the Senior Management Team; Academic Board; Policy and Compliance Committee; Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Group; and Resource Allocation Group.

Bex completed her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in osteopathic healthcare at the University College of Osteopathy. Before joining NCH, she was senior management at other private higher education providers, responsible for quality assurance, student engagement, learning and teaching and taught at undergraduate and postgraduate levels in the UK and Europe. She is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and previously has been a reviewer for the QAA.

Full Professor of Higher Education and Human Physiology

Professor Scott Wildman, a Professor of Higher Education and Human Physiology, is the Director of Apprenticeships & Workforce Development at New College of Humanities.  He was previously Director of Apprenticeships at the University of Kent and has held academic appointments at the Royal Veterinary College, UCL, Johns Hopkins University, and Imperial College London.

Scott provides strategic leadership, and day-to-day management, for NCH’s provision of workforce enhancement solutions, including higher and degree apprenticeships.  He is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and is nationally recognised for Widening Access & Outreach (2020; Guardian University Award) and Employer Engagement (2018; Times Higher Education Leadership and Management Award), and was a Finalist at the National Apprenticeship Awards (2018).
