Date: 12th December 2018
Speaker: Professor Daniel Dennett
On Wednesday 12th December, we have the pleasure of hosting a talk by Professor Daniel Dennett, Visiting Professor at NCH and University Professor at Tufts University, on the topic of “The Role of Language in Consciousness”.
What difference does language make to consciousness? Chimpanzees, dogs and dolphins don’t have language, but are certainly conscious, but how different is their consciousness from our human consciousness? When we imagine their inner lives might we be parochially attributing features to it that are biologically very unlikely if not impossible?
