‘Why did medieval people go on crusade?’
In 1096, tens of thousands of western European knights and commoners set out on what they believed to be a holy war to conquer the holy city of Jerusalem, which was then under the rule of the Muslim Seljuk Turks. In this talk Lars Kjær will explore why people went on the crusade: we will look at the background of the crusaders, the sources they left for us and try to think about how we can try to understand why people did what they did in the past – and in the present.
We look forward to welcoming current Year 12 and Year 13 who are interested in studying History.
