‘Why Do Queens Matter?’
This talk looks at the importance of queens as political and diplomatic players during the early modern period. For too long the focus has been on kings and male leaders, this talk reassesses the vital roles that queens and female leaders had at European court and beyond. Four queens will be at the centre of this talk: Elizabeth I, female king of England, Catherine de Medici, queen mother of France, Isabella Clara Eugenia, Governor of the Spanish Netherlands, and Henrietta Maria, queen consort of England.
We look forward to welcoming current Year 12 and Year 13 who are interested in studying History.
