‘Beneath the Surface’
There is more to an art work than meets the eye, as objects can change in both appearance and function over time. This lecture will introduce some of the factors that can have an impact on this process of transformation, demonstrating how choices made by an artist and/or patron regarding materials can have long term consequences. This talk will highlight why it is important that art historians consider both physical and documentary evidence before making a judgment about a work of art, and how difficult decisions have to be taken regarding various aspects of conservation and display.
We look forward to welcoming current Year 12 and Year 13 who are interested in studying Art History.
