Henry David Thoreau said that ‘Heaven is under our feet as well as over our heads.’ The humanities enable us to perceive, interact and value the natural world. In Ecology and the humanities, Dr Suzanna Mason will teach on the different philosophical and economical views of nature, the history of ecology and nature’s place in art and media. As our values impact our perception on nature, they can also impact how we receive information about nature, and what decisions we come to regarding conservation, and this requires good communication and discussion. This lecture will cover a variety of topical issues, such as plastic pollution, Brexit, and anti-vaccination movements.
