An interdisciplinary research community

Here at Northeastern University London, treating you as an individual is central to our ethos; we are committed to helping you achieve your academic, personal and professional potential. You will benefit from access to academics, carefully selected for their enthusiasm for teaching, their expertise and their research interests.

Where we teach

From the start of the 2021/22 academic year teaching will take place in Devon House. As well as benefitting from the vibrant intellectual culture of London, Northeastern University London postgraduates have the added advantage of belonging to a close-knit community of academics, undergraduates and alumni.

The Northeastern University London campus

All of your seminars will take place in Devon House in St Katharine Docks (SKD), which is home to the University’s teaching and administrative facilities.

The University will maintain the ground and first floor at Devon House.

An urban oasis on the Thames waterfront, St Katharine Docks are steeped in the history of London and the river upon which the city was founded.

Today, St Katharine Docks are home to dozens of restaurants, cafes, bars, and a leisure marina. The Docks boast an eclectic, year-round calendar of spectacular events from world food markets, clipper races, and Wimbledon on the big screen, to classic boat shows.

Tower of London

The Tower of London is one of England’s most iconic structures and has been central to the history of London and England for almost a thousand years.

Built by William the Conqueror as a massive stone fortress to defend and proclaim his royal power, the Tower of London has provided a luxurious palace for medieval monarchs, becoming an infamous prison during the Wars of the Roses, Tudor era, and even during the second World War. The  Tower of London houses a vast collection of art and artefacts. Its entrance is an eight minute walk from Devon House, making it a wonderful place to indulge in culture and history.

Libraries at Northeastern University London

Senate House is one of the top three humanities libraries in the UK. Northeastern University London students have full access to its borrowing, digital and print services.

Northeastern University London students are also eligible for a reader’s pass to use the British Library. As it is a copyright library, it has copies all new books published in the UK, making it an excellent resource for research.

Students with a specific research need can also apply to access the London School of Economics Library.

Seminars in London

Studying in London also gives you access to a wealth of free events and seminars. These include the UCL lunch hour lectures and public lectures, SOAS public lectures, the LSE public lecture series, and the Royal Institute of Philosophy London Lecture Series.

As well as its library, Senate House is also home to the School of Advanced Study at the University of London, which supports research in the humanities. It includes the Institute of Historical Research and the Institute of Philosophy, both of which run free seminars and lectures on a diverse range of topics that Northeastern University London students are encouraged to attend.

Postgraduate student accommodation

London offers a huge range of accommodation options for an even wider range of budgets, and we recommend two accommodation options to reflect this range. Many Northeastern University London students choose to share private accommodation with fellow students. If you choose to live outside of halls, our Residence Life Officer can help you find accommodation.

In addition to the growing range of clubs and societies at Northeastern University London, postgraduate students can participate in societies at other London colleges through Student Central, formerly University of London Union. Of course, if you’d like to do something completely different, the Northeastern University London Student Union (NCHSU) can provide guidance and funding so that you can set up your own society.
