How to Apply

The University welcomes applications from candidates who have attained upper second class honours in their undergraduate degree or an international equivalent.

We encourage applications from candidates who have studied a wide range of subjects at undergraduate level, as we recognise the interdisciplinary nature of studying the humanities and social sciences and the insights that students of different disciplines including the natural sciences can bring.

We also accept applications from mature students who have been out of education for a while, if they can demonstrate relevant professional experience or equivalent qualifications, together with the potential to thrive as a postgraduate student at Northeastern University London.

Each application will be assessed on an individual basis through their application, a reference and a personal statement.

Step 1 | Start an online application here

Postgraduate applications should be made directly to the University through our online application form. We accept applications on a rolling basis. Here, you’ll find our online application form, with details of how to start, save and complete it.

Providing you have already written your personal statement, it usually takes 15 minutes to complete the form.

Your personal statement should cover the following areas:

  • Why do you want to study your chosen course?
  • What are your interests and how do they relate to your subject area (you might want to mention books you have read or ideas you would especially like to explore)?
  • Why is Northeastern University London the right place for you to study?
  • What are your future plans and career aspirations?

You can write up to 4,000 characters.

Step 2 | Your reference

Your referee should be someone who has taught or worked closely with you in an academic or professional context within the past two years.

Step 3 | Your interview

We sometimes select applicants for interview as part of the admissions process. The interview is not designed to be a test of your knowledge but is an opportunity for you to meet an academic from your subject area in a one-to-one setting similar to a dissertation supervision meeting, in order to assess your candidacy.

The interview will be an informal discussion where the academic tutor will ask questions to find out more about you, your reasons for applying and your areas of interest.  You will also have the opportunity to ask the academic tutor any questions you may have about the programme.

Step 4 | Your offer

Within a few weeks of your application, we will let you know informally, whether we will make you an offer. Your formal offer pack will follow.

Here to help

Once your application is submitted, it will be reviewed by a member of the Admissions Team who will be appointed as your contact to answer any questions you may have. Please take the opportunity to ask anything, no matter how complicated or trivial it may seem; we want to make sure that you have all the information you need to make the right decision for you.

If you like the prospect of studying at Northeastern University London, we would love to give you an even better flavour of the atmosphere at the University by welcoming you to one of our Open Days. You will find out more about the courses on offer and our teaching methods by meeting students and faculty, who will be more than happy to offer guidance and answer any of your questions.
