About Dr Andrew Ginger
As Dean of Faculties, Andrew provides faculty with academic leadership and representation, with a wide-ranging remit to promote faculty development and encourage excellence in teaching, engagement, and research. Andrew manages all Heads of Faculties and directs all faculty structures and roles. Andrew studied at Trinity and Exeter College Oxford, where he was Queen Sofía Junior Research Fellow, and in 2010 was awarded the title of Officer of the Order of Isabel the Catholic for services to Spanish culture. He has held chairs at 3 UK universities. Among other national roles, Andrew has been a sub-panel member for the REF, chaired panels for GCRF, and is presently a Strategic ODA Peer Review group member (having previously been a Strategic Peer Review group member) for the AHRC. Internationally, Andrew is a member of the Histopia research group on historical utopias, and is co-founder and co-lead of the Nineteenth-Century Hispanists Network
Dr Andrew Ginger's Research
He has published 4 monographs, and works on interdisciplinary approaches to comparative cultural and historical study, especially with regards to the nineteenth century. His latest monograph, Instead of Modernity, was published in 2020 by Manchester University Press.
