Economics with Philosophy BSc

The aim of the Philosophy minor is to bring clarity and rigour to your thinking and to advance your understanding of, and ability to engage with, central philosophical questions, arguments, theories and texts.

Standard offers

The below are indicative of our standard offers for popular high school-level qualifications.

A-level

AAB. For the Economics major you must have achieved A or B in Mathematics at A-level. Please note that A-level General Studies, Critical Thinking, Thinking Skills and Global Perspectives are not accepted by NCH as one of your A-levels.

Students studying the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) alongside three A Levels may be eligible for an alternative offer.

International Baccalaureate Diploma

An overall score of 35 points OR 6, 6, 5 in subjects taken at Higher Level.
Please note, the overall score of 35 points includes TOK and the Extended Essay, and students must achieve a pass in the IB Diploma for entry to our courses.
For the Economics major you must have 5, 6, or 7 at Higher Level Mathematics, or 6 or 7 at Standard Level Mathematics. We do not accept Mathematical Studies for the Economics major.
From 2021, you must have Grade 5 or above in Analysis and Approaches (Higher), Grade 6 or above in Analysis and Approaches (Standard), or Grade 5 or above in Applications and Interpretation (Higher). Applications and Interpretation at Standard Level is not suitable for the Economics major.

European Baccalaureate

85%.

Scottish Higher

AABBB. We do not count Highers and Advanced Highers in the same subject.

Advanced Scottish Higher

AB. We do not count Highers and Advanced Highers in the same subject.

Access to HE Diploma

45 Level 3 credits at Distinction: 33 credits. Merit: 12 credits. Pass: 0 credits.

Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma

BTEC Extended Diploma, Diploma and Subsidiary Diploma are considered on a case by case basis when offered in combination with required A-level – contact us for further guidance.

International student English language requirements

We would normally require an IELTS score of 7.0 (including 6.5 in each component). If you need a visa to study in the UK, then we can only accept the IELTS test from an UKVI approved centre and not any other English language tests due to the visa requirements set by the UK Government. English language qualifications must have been obtained within two years before application to NCH.

EU/EEA student English language requirements

EU/EEA students who have taken higher level English as part of their secondary school examinations, or who have been educated entirely in English for a minimum of three years prior to application, may be exempt from these requirements. EU/EEA students studying the IB (International Baccalaureate) may be exempt provided they have achieved the following grades: English A: English Language & Literature or English Literature HL4 or SL5, or English B: HL5 or SL7.
