Update on COVID-19 guidance and teaching arrangements

Helen Cole | April 16, 2021

As you may be aware, the UK Government have provided an update about COVID-related restrictions on universities this term.

You can read the full letter from Michelle Donelan MP, Minister of State for Universities.

In the announcement it was confirmed that those students currently required to study wholly online must continue to do so until 17 May at the earliest.

This latest update is, of course, disappointing and not what we had hoped to communicate to you at this stage of the year.

On May 17, NCH undergraduate students will be in the midst of exams and working on dissertations, so sadly scope for in-person teaching will be limited.

However we hope that we will be able to offer individual postgraduate dissertation supervisions in-person during the term time to those who want them, subject to government guidance.

Study space

The College will be open leading up to the exam period for students requiring quiet study space, Monday to Friday, 10:00am to 4:00pm

You can book available study space here. Please make sure you have requested a study space by 3pm the day before, entry may be refused without a booking.

Support available

Please remember that regardless of where you are currently studying, we have a range of support services in place.

The NCH Student Wellbeing Team is here to support you. You can find out more on our webpages Student Support and Development.

If you have been affected by recent events and you need help, don’t hesitate to contact us on +44 (0)20 4504 0179, or via email in confidence.

COVID-19 safety

It’s really important to continue to adhere to current public health measures to keep yourself and everyone safe. If you are using study rooms at 19 Bedford Square, this includes getting regular tests and wearing a face covering inside the building, as well as outdoors wherever maintaining a 2-metre distance may not be possible.

Asymptomatic lateral flow testing is offered at 19 Bedford Square to support the fight against COVID-19 for our staff, students and society as a whole.

The test centre will be open on Tuesdays and Thursdays weekly from 10:00 am – 3:00 pm

You can book a lateral flow test through this form, we aim to test you within 30 minutes of the time you have requested. If we foresee a reason that we can’t do this due to high volumes a member of staff will be in contact with you.

If you test positive, you will be asked to return home immediately, self isolate and order a PCR test from the government which can be done here. Please also complete the Student absence reporting (self-isolating and COVID-related) form.
