“A beautifully deft interweaving of domestic love with cosmic quest”
“Absolute harmony between formal virtuosity and emotional gut-punch”
Join UQP Publishers to celebrate the launch of Jaya Savige, Head of Creative Writing and Lecturer in English at NCH’s new poetry collection, Change Machine. Jaya will be joined by poet, novelist and editor, Lisa Gorton, and publisher Aviva Tuffield, to read from and discuss the new work. Audience members will have the opportunity to participate in a Q&A discussion at the conclusion. Register here to attend.
The highly anticipated third collection from the multi-award-winning and internationally recognised poet Jaya Savige, Change Machine gathers the best of Savige’s poetry spanning a decade abroad, uprooted from the intertidal zones of Moreton Bay to the imperial metropoles of London and Paris. Elegies appear alongside poems that set a pulse to new life. Caustic missives from Brexit- and pandemic-era Europe give way to sensuous celebrations of the Queensland coast and unflinching interrogations of the poet’s Australian-Indonesian heritage and working-class upbringing.
A work of fiercely intelligent artistry, Change Machine is shaped, equally, by feeling – its wild originality comes from how it forces the two together.
The event will begin at 7:30 pm (AEST) / 10.30 am (BST). Registration for this online event is via Avid Reader bookstore, here.
