Updates to the extenuating circumstances policy to include COVID-19

NCH London | March 16, 2020

In light of the ongoing developments relating to the COVID-19 pandemic, the College is expanding its Extenuating Circumstances criteria to include the following in addition to the usual acceptable reasons:

  • Self-isolation because of COVID-19
  • Having to travel home, away from London because of circumstances in London or at home connected to COVID-19

Students wishing to apply for Extenuating Circumstances, should do so following the usual procedure. Please find the policy and the application form here.

The College and Solent University recognise that these are unprecedented circumstances,  so please be assured that it is very unlikely that an application on the basis of COVID-19 would not be successful.

We therefore encourage you to make your application for Extenuating Circumstances as soon as possible, while understanding that – due to the unique current situation – the outcome of your application will not be communicated before the assessment deadline.

Medical evidence or flight tickets will not be required for those applying due to COVID-19. However, by applying for Extenuating Circumstances for these reasons, you are making a declaration, which if found to be false could be considered academic misconduct.

SUMMATIVE ASSESSMENT DEADLINES

The Public Law, Aesthetics, and Political Philosophy courses have summative assessment deadlines tomorrow, Monday 16th March, 2020. Some courses have summative assessment deadlines on Monday, 23rd March 2020.

These deadlines remain in place, and students without Extenuating Circumstances should submit their work by the deadline, using the usual procedure to do so.

END-OF-YEAR ASSESSMENTS

The College hopes to be in a position to provide further information about the nature of the end-of-year summative assessments, which may take place remotely online, by the end of next week when we expect to receive a decision from Solent University.

EUROPEAN & INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS ADVISED TO POSTPONE BOOKING RETURN TRAVEL TO THE UK

Students who have already returned to their home outside the UK due to COVID-19 are advised to postpone booking any travel back to the UK until the College has confirmed its plans for end-of-year summative assessments.

NCH CONTINUES TO REQUIRE IMMEDIATE NOTIFICATION OF ILLNESS OR TRAVEL

Students must advise the College via this form if they are unwell and need to self-isolate.

Students must advise the College via this form if they decide to travel outside the UK.
