As you may have read in the media, the UK government has published a Coronavirus Action Plan to set out what the UK as a whole has done – and plans to do – to tackle the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak, based on its experience dealing with other infectious diseases and influenza pandemic preparedness work.
The UK government’s education departments’ planning assumptions include the possibility of having to close educational settings in order to reduce the spread of infection.
As a result, the College’s Senior Management Team has developed a COVID-19 Action Plan which would be implemented in the event that the virus spreads significantly. The exact response will be tailored to the nature, scale and location of the threat within our community, as our understanding of this develops, and will be in line with the UK government’s advice.
The key objectives of the action plan are to protect the health and wellbeing of our students, staff and the wider community, while continuing to provide students with our educational provisions and continuing to operate the College’s other activities. It includes plans for the continuation of both teaching and/or assessment in the event that the College has to close for a period of time.
We will keep students and staff informed of any developments and changes to our operation, primarily via email. Other communications such as text messages and private social media may be used to supplement these communications.
In the meantime, we expect staff and students to continue to be in College in accordance with their timetables, unless they are unwell or have extenuating circumstances.
The current advice from the UK government is:
How can you prevent and slow the spread of COVID-19?
Wash your hands more often, especially:
- when you get to work/college or arrive home
- after you blow your nose, cough or sneeze
- before you eat or handle food
You should wash your hands for 20 seconds, using soap and water or hand sanitiser.
You should also cough or sneeze into tissues before binning them.
What to do if you feel unwell?
Go to NHSUK/coronavirus for information about the virus and how to protect yourself.
Use the 111 online coronavirus service to check if you need medical help.
